A BOLD YELLOW TREND

We are seeing an explosion of yellow in combination with white & black everywhere from interior design to fashion and accessory design. Yellow, a warm color perfect for spring and summer, reflects joy and happiness, and perfectly complements the cool elegance of the non-colors white and black. Citrus colors such as yellow and lime were launched as hot trend for interior design last year and we are still intrigued by these fresh, inspiring hues. Whether it’s a bright, bold yellow or softer tone of lemon, yellow adds a vibrant, fresh energy and look to your home. Pair it with gray for a more subtle and sophisticated look.

Upholstering an armchair or a headboard in a fun, fresh yellow fabric against a glossy black paneled wall creates a highly dramatic look.

SPRING CLEANING

We love Spring, the season of rebirth and new growth! It's a great time to rethink your living spaces, reorganize and declutter your life. Why not start with your closet?
As most women, here at MM Design we love collecting beautiful objects and adding to our growing closets. Many people often find themselves overwhelmed with the abundance of things they have amassed over the years. Rethinking your closet can not only simplify your daily routine, but also beautify your life!
Whether your desire is to do a complete redesign of your closet space or simply update it with new colors and organizing systems, we can offer some great design ideas to help you "spring" into Spring!
Custom cabinetry creates an elegant, tailored look. Opening up the closet to your bathroom and adding comfortable seating can create a luxurious and magnificent Master Suite!

Organize according to color and add soft feminine touches to create an intimate space. Mirrored surfaces and plenty of light will make the space feel larger. Tall, exposed shoe shelves make shoes easily viewable and accessible.

To update and add light to a small, dark closet we recommend covering the walls in a beautiful, light-colored wallpaper and adding reflective surfaces. A full-length mirror will enhance the space and create more light.

Transform a bedroom in your house into a wonderful, spacious closet. A window and mirrored closet doors give this space plenty of natural light.

Create a cabinetry island in the center of your closet for additional storage. Hanging a chandelier or even a pair of chandeliers is a fantastic way to add luxury and sparkle to your closet.

A stunning as well as functional and organized dressing room!

MILAN FURNITURE FAIR 2010

We are always inspired by all things Italian so every year we look forward to seeing the new designs of innovative designers during the Milan Furniture Fair. Although we will be unable to attend this year's Salone Internazionale del Mobile (April 14th-19th, 2010) we are eager to follow the latest trends in furniture, lighting and interior design. The International Furniture Fair of Milan is the largest decoration trade fair in the world and showcases the latest in furniture and design from international sources.

Here are a few sneak peeks of what we can expect at this year's fair:
We are looking forward to seeing Missoni's new furniture collection - known for their boldly striped and patterned fabrics, the Milanese fashion house has now moved into furniture. Their bentwood loungers, carpets, side tables and pendant lights will be showcased during the show.

Interesting use of color. Note this season's yellow-green mixed with a rich red-violet, sure to make a statement! Missoni

Famed Interior designer Andrée Putman created the Zenith table from solid Corian, with brass inlays on the top and base. The pedestal is hollowed out and lined in gold-leafed glass tiles from Bisazza.

According to Dezeen (www.dezeen.com), Japanese designers Nendo will present this chair made of thin steel rods at an exhibition of their work in Milan next week. The Wire-chair is finished in layers of hand-polished powder coating. This chair is a development of their Cord-chair project which featured hollowed-out pieces of wood on a steel frame. The new finish also heightens the chair’s flexibility of use: the resulting durability and water resistance of the finish allow the chair to be used outdoors.

Swarovski Crystal Palace present installations by designers including Tokujin YoshiokaYves Behar and Gwenael Nicolas in Milan this week. They commissioned five international designers to interpret the beauty of Swarovski crystal and incorporate their vision into a piece of design.
Here is a selection of some of the magnificent light pieces that are shown:

SPRING TRENDS 2010

Spring is here and the design industry is is bringing new splashes of color to home decor and fashion.Vibrant brights add a sense of excitement to the color palette, while practical neutrals provide a comforting backdrop. In fashion as well as in home design, pairing a bold color with a basic piece can freshen up a look. Accessorizing a neutral sofa or armchair with pillows in a bold hue can update any space.
The warmer seasons evoke feelings of ocean waters and beach vacations. Warmer than a navy blue, this season's blue is brighter than a navy, with a more energetic attitude.
Yellow is back this spring, with a slightly greenish tint which adds a boldness and energy. A Tomato PurĂ©e is this season’s classic red. Safe shades of cream, beige and taupe provide a neutral backdrop to the new bold, bright hues. The combination of red, white and blue beomes the defining trio of this spring.
This season we are inspired by the elements - the sky, water, wind, sand, earth and fire.
A textured palette adds interest to a design, drawing color inspiration from the clouds, skies and oceans.
Nude hues combined with the warm passion of red, fire coral and bright, sunny yellow create a bold contrast.

TURQUOISE: COLOR OF THE YEAR

Pantone Unveils Color of the Year for 2010: Turquoise
Pantone has proclaimed Turquoise color of the year for 2010. Becoming vastly popular in the interior design industry as well as in fashion and accessory design, turquoise evokes thoughts of tropical waters, fun and excitement.
“In many cultures, Turquoise occupies a very special position in the world of color,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “It is believed to be a protective talisman, a color of deep compassion and healing, and a color of faith and truth, inspired by water and sky. Through years of color word-association studies, we also find that Turquoise represents an escape to many – taking them to a tropical paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy.”
In Interior Design, adding the color Turquoise to a space can easily create a soothing, spa-like environment.
Turquoise is a great accent color for decor and can be paired with neutrals like brown, cream and white to bolder colors such as orange and red.
Perfect for a powder room or bedroom, it can add warmth to an otherwise cool room. Turquoise is an ideal color when used as an accent hue: drapery or throw pillows in a living room, tiles in a bathroom or tabletop accessories and appliances in a kitchen. Used as a wall color it can update a space, adding excitement and an eccentric, modern touch.
